Laura Gooch-Brown

Laura Gooch-Brown, a native of Oberlin, Ohio is a graduate of Morgan State University where she received a bachelor’s degree in social work. She received her master’s degree in social work from University of Maryland at Baltimore where she specialized in Employee Assistance Programs (EAP) with a concentration of both Clinical and Management and Community Organizing. 


Laura’s extensive social work experience comes from a variety of settings including foster care and adoption, preventive care, school social work, as well as individual psychotherapy practicing in Maryland, District of Columbia, New York, and Ohio. Laura’s clinical focus is on trauma informed practice and childhood mental health. Laura’s teaching experience includes adjunct positions at Rutgers University School of Social Work and College of Staten Island School of Education. 


Laura was the founding advisor for a New York chapter of Phi Alpha National Honors Society. She also served on the Morgan State University Field Instruction Advisory Board. While in New York, Laura worked closely with the Staten Island Alliance for North Shore Children and Families as a Steering Committee member and co-chair for the parent empowerment committee. 


Laura holds certifications as a licensed social worker, school social worker, and is SIFI certified. In her spare time, Laura volunteers for numerous organizations related to youth and families, suicide prevention, and college preparation. Laura is the mother of a young son, Jordan.
